About Us

Heart of Texas HALO Company Profile

Heart of Texas HALO was founded by Joanie Mathis, a lifelong advocate for service, compassion and dignity in care. With more than 35 years of experience in the hospitality and restaurant industry - spanning brand development, product design and guest relations - Joanie has built her career on understanding people, anticipating needs and creating environments that make others feel seen and supported.

Eight years ago, Joanie stepped into the world of healthcare as a Care Transition Specialist, assisting patients, loved ones and families navigating senior living, post acute care and the often confusing continuum of services that follow a hospitalization or a decline in health. Through this work, she learned firsthand how overwhelming the system can be - especially for adult children suddenly placed in the role of caregiver.

The mission of Heart of Texas HALO became deeply personal when Joanie began walking her own care journey with her mother, who is living with dementia. Experiencing the fear, uncertainty and complexity from the inside gave her a new perspective: if the process is this difficult for someone in the industry, how much harder must it be for families walking it alone?

Heart of Texas HALO was born from that realization.

As the "Silver Tsunami" approaches and millions of Baby Boomers - one of the largest and wealthiest generations in history - move into their senior years, the need for clear guidance, trusted education and compassionate navigation has never been greater. Families deserve support. Older adults deserve dignity. And caregivers deserve someone in their corner.

Heart of Texas HALO exists to be that guide.

We help families understand their options. We bridge the gap, plan ahead, access resources and navigate every stage of the care journey - from early concerns to long-term support. Whether you're seeking clarity, crisis assistance or simply a place to start, HALO is here to walk beside you with honesty, advocacy and heart.

Our Commitment

Heart of Texas HALO is dedicated to being a free resource for families.

We believe guidance, education and advocacy should never be out of reach, especially during some of life's most difficult decisions.

We are actively working towards establishing full non-profit status, allowing us to expand our reach and deepen our impact. Our services are

sustained through donations and grants, ensuring that every individual - regardless of financial ability - receives the support, direction and clarity they deserve.

"God plants the visions, brings the people and opens the doors - but it's our job to walk through them and do the work."

Our Promise

Heart of Texas HALO walks beside families through every stage of the care journey - helping them understand options, prepare for the future and navigate transitions with confidence and dignity.
