Palliative Care Vs. Hospice care

The Heart of Hospice

At it's core, hospice is about honoring wishes, reducing suffering and creating space for meaningful moments. It is a compassionate, holistic approach that supports both the patient and their family, providing guidance and care whenever it's needed most.

Hospice care does not mean that someone is at the very end of life. It can be started when a person experiences a sudden decline or when a progressive, degenerative condition begins to impact daily life. In fact, hospice can provide the support and symptom management needed to help someone stabilize and maintain comfort, giving both the individual and their family peace of mind.

Hospice focuses on quality of life, comfort and dignity, rather than curing the underlying disease. It provides expert care in the home, in assisted living or in long-term care facilities, depending on the person's needs and preferences.

What Hospice Provides

  • Pain and symptom management to improve comfort for the body and mind
  • Nursing care tailored to individual needs
  • Personal care such as bathing, grooming and mobility support
  • Emotional and spiritual support for patients and families
  • Medication management and delivery of medical supplies and equipment
  • 24/7 access to hospice clinicians for urgent concerns
  • Bereavement support for loved ones after a loss
